College Credit
College credit may be earned for some Engineering Academy courses. There are two ways to earn college credit in the Engineering Academy :
Transcript Credit: McNeil High School is a Project Lead the Way certified school. This means that for the Project Lead the Way courses, Introduction to Engineering Design, Principles of Engineering and Digital Electronics, college credit may be earned by earning a grade of 85% or above in the course and passing a college level final exam with a grade of 70% or above. Upon meeting those two conditions, the student becomes eligible to purchase credit hours for that course from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York for $200. If the student decides to purchase the credit, he/she will receive a college transcript from RIT showing that the student has completed that course.
Credit-in-Escrow: Round Rock ISD and Austin Community College have articulation agreements in place for these courses: Digital Electronics, Introduction to Graphic Communications, Architectural Graphic Design Iand Architectural Graphic Design II, and students can earn “credit-in-escrow” for these courses. This means that if a student takes one of these courses in high school and makes an overall grade of 80 or above, his/her name will be submitted to ACC to claim future ACC college credit for these courses. Students must pay for and successfully complete at least one three-hour course at ACC before “credits-in-escrow” will be applied to their college transcript. The student should notify the ACC counselor when ready to claim credit for high school courses. Course credit must be claimed within 24 months of graduation from high school.
